You might think that your purchase of your dream home is the single most important investment you will ever make. This statement might be true except for the fact that most families will sell and buy homes an average of 3 to 6 or more during their lifetime.
What are the steps to becoming a first time home buyer? In most cases the process to begin the home ownership dream is to begin sometimes six months to a year before you purchase.
It’s easy to find a Realtor® and have them drive you to the many available properties and pick the one that you want to call home. The first thing before the viewings is to sit down with a mortgage broker/lender. They will need to gather your personal information to determine just what priced home you can afford with today’s new market.
You may have credit issues that you need to “Fix” or pay off certain loans. In any case, the lender is the person that you have confidence in to lay out your plan of home ownership.
When a plan is developed with the lender then the next step in the process is sitting down with a knowledgeable Realtor®. The agent should have the expertise to work with the lender and the selling side of the properties.
A search is then conducted to locate and view homes that fall into your criteria. When a property is located a Contract or Earnest Money agreement is written by your Realtor®. This contract gives all of the terms for purchase of the home. The contract is then presented to the seller usually though a Realtor®.
When the contract is accepted it may be up to thirty days to two months until the closing date. Then you will move into your new home.
